The nominations for the 16th Annual Webby Awards have been announced, and Esurance was the only company to score a nomination for their primary website in the Insurance category. Among the other nominees were Allstate Teen Driver, Clickable House from Farmers, Meerkovo, and State Farm's State of Chaos.

Anyone not from the Pacific Northwest has probably missed out on the phenomenon that is Vern Fonk Insurance. The Washington insurance agency that specializes in drivers with tickets or DUIs made a name for themselves with a series of ridiculously low budget (and awesomely cheesy) ads airing on late night television. The commercials generated enough attention that the firm became a "quirky Seattle icon."

Esurance Celebrates National Poetry Month with 'Poems of the Road Contest'

This month is National Poetry Month, and in celebration, Esurance is offering up a chance for three aspiring poets to win some cash. The insurance company's "Poems of the Road" contest is encouraging car enthusiasts to submit their best poem about "the road," with the first place entry recieving a $2,000 grand prize. The top entries will be judged by Tom and Ray Magliozzi of NPR's Car Talk, and Facebook users will be encouraged to peruse the entries and vote for their favorites.

Misprinted Geico Pig(gy) Bank Being Sold on eBay for $500.00

Maxwell the Pig, Geico’s pinwheel twirling, “wheeeee” squealing mascot, was recently immortalized in piggy bank form. Now, it turns out that the limited edition printing of just 3000 collectables may have resulted in an error. One savvy reseller is hoping to capitalize on a misprint showing their “durable poly resin” Maxwell keepsake (complete with sound chip!) was actually number 3010 of 3000.

American Family Insurance Announces Winners of the ‘Go Get Your Dream Challenge’

The contest that launched back in January has finally come to an end. American Family Insurance has announced the winners of their “Go Get Your Dream Challenge,” an online contest that encouraged users to submit their aspirations relating to health, career, finances, or their personal life and solicit votes from others using Twitter and Facebook. The top three dreams were awarded cash prizes in the amounts of $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500, with the first place winner also receiving a personalized development session with motivational mentor Kathy Ireland.

New Geico Campaign Wants You to ‘Taste the Low Rates’

Geico’s new ad campaign is asking customers to “taste the low rates” by parodying the taste test ads made popular by the soft drink industry. The series of ads from The Martin Agency features consumers sampling two different beverages, one representing Geico and another representing the competition. In each of the commercials, customers participate in a car insurance taste test and determine the Geico sample is superior to the competition. The ads end with the tagline, “Millions of people are choosing Geico.”

Advertising Trends: 2012 Online Ad Spending Projected to Exceed Print

Everyone knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time. In 2012, for the first time, online ad spending in the US is projected to outpace buys in print media. This is according to recent study by eMarketer, which forecasts that US online ad spending will grow almost 24% this year, approaching $40 billion. In addition, this increase is coming at the expense of declining traditional print media, such as newspapers and magazines, which is predicted to see a decline of nearly 10% this year.
