Insurance Ad of the Week: Allstate's March Madness Mayhem Spots

After weeks of intense gameplay, upsets, questionable reffing, and burst bubbles, the 2012 NCAA men's basketball championship game has finally arrived. Tonight the Kentucky Wildcats will face off against the underdogs Kansas Jayhawks to determine which team is the best of the D-I bunch. Throughout the tournament fans have seen numerous ads from various insurance companies, but the Allstate Mayhem ads have stuck out among the competition, offering up short, amusing, basketball-themed spots to remind us that Allstate protects its customers from all sorts of "mayhem."

'The Guardian' Envisions Retelling of 'The Three Little Pigs' as Insurance Fraud Scheme

The Guardian recently created an ad for their "open journalism" concept, in which the organization shows how stories nowadays can be covered from multiple angles in print and online and how the general public can quickly react to them. They used the story of The Three Little Pigs as an example and reshaped the tale to reveal a twist--the pigs had framed the Big Bad Wolf for insurance fraud because they couldn't keep up with their mortgage payments.

New Geico Campaign Wants You to ‘Taste the Low Rates’

Geico’s new ad campaign is asking customers to “taste the low rates” by parodying the taste test ads made popular by the soft drink industry. The series of ads from The Martin Agency features consumers sampling two different beverages, one representing Geico and another representing the competition. In each of the commercials, customers participate in a car insurance taste test and determine the Geico sample is superior to the competition. The ads end with the tagline, “Millions of people are choosing Geico.”

They will be combining their world famous television ratings, which measure the reach and frequency of ads on TV, with their new online campaign ratings, which apply the same measurements to Internet and mobile audiences.

Advertising Trends: 2012 Online Ad Spending Projected to Exceed Print

Everyone knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time. In 2012, for the first time, online ad spending in the US is projected to outpace buys in print media. This is according to recent study by eMarketer, which forecasts that US online ad spending will grow almost 24% this year, approaching $40 billion. In addition, this increase is coming at the expense of declining traditional print media, such as newspapers and magazines, which is predicted to see a decline of nearly 10% this year.

Office Depot Offering 'Pen Insurance' for Their 'World's Most Stolen Pen (TM)'

Office Depot is running a "pen insurance" program to promote a line of pens that they carry. The campaign, which is viewable via a special page on their Facebook page, encourages consumers to submit a "claim" for their stolen pens to receive a coupon for $2 off a 4-pack of Paper Mate InkJoy 550RT pens.
